Wendy Ochoa
Player Bio
Name: Wendy Ochoa
Hometown: San Diego, California
Sponsors: Manifesting some good ones right here
Age: 51
Family: Wife: Maritza — co-captain of my life, my game, and most of my good decisions.
Most influential person in your life: My mom, Carmen, who taught me to dream big and stay kind. And my aunt Ana Adela, who taught me there’s always a way to turn lemons into lemonade
Year started playing pickleball: 2020 — a true pandemic love story.
Who is your mentor: My wife Maritza — my drill partner, strategy coach, tournament therapist, and the one who secretly signed me up for the combine. And honestly, all those who I get to share the court with — especially my Tuesday legends, the Freaky Friday crew, and of course, the little but mighty Thursday Drill Club.
Do you have a pickleball coach: Big shoutout to coaches Austin and Carlota for sharpening my skills, Coach Ann for her wisdom and perspective, and Jerry for his dedication to drilling and improving together.
How you got into pickleball: A friend invited me to an Intro to Pickleball class. I bought my first paddle that same day. The rest is… we will see.
College Sports: Squash and Badminton
Famous person you want to play pickleball with: My Scorpions teammates first, and then Hurricane Tyra Black, with or against, especially if I’m feeling brave.
Pickleball accomplishments: Making this team. Truly. That’s the trophy. Everything else is extra credit.
What are you most looking forward to this year: Getting to know this awesome team of humans. Learning A TON. Doing my absolute best to make the Scorpions proud. And okay fine… winning. Just a little. Maybe a lot. Mostly though — I’m excited for all the moments in between: the drills, the laughs, the long rallies, the near-miss ATPs, the high-fives, and those post-match “did-that-just-happen?” stories that make this game so fun to love.
