Wendy Ochoa
Player Bio
Name: Wendy Ochoa
Hometown: San Diego, California
Sponsors: Still manifesting… letters have been sent, the universe has been notified. Let’s see who’s listening this year 😉
Age: 51
Family: Wife: Maritza — co-captain of my life, my game, and most of my best decisions (and still my anytime-ready drill partner).
Most influential person in your life: My mom, Carmen, who taught me to dream big and stay kind. And my aunt Ana Adela, who taught me there’s always a way to turn lemons into lemonade.
Year started playing pickleball: 2020 — a true pandemic love story.Who is your mentor: Many mentors… all the amazing women I share the court with every week — my Tuesday group, Wednesday sessions, and the mighty Thursday Drill Club.
Do you have a pickleball coach: Not an official one, but I’m very coachable… so Leigh Waters, Mari Humbert, Athena Trouillot — if you have time, I’m here 😉
How you got into pickleball: A friend invited me to an Intro to Pickleball class. I bought my first paddle that same day. The rest is… still being written.
College Sports: Squash and Badminton
Famous person you want to play pickleball with: Steffi Graf… I hear you may be around this year 👀 — if you’re reading this, let’s hit.
Pickleball accomplishments: NPL Champion 2025 with the Scorpions (sharing that win made it even sweeter). Represented Spain at the 2025 Pickleball World Cup. Gold Medal – PPA Newport 2026 (let’s go, Taiche!).
What are you most looking forward to this year: Becoming the best version of myself — on and off the court. Competing hard, learning even more, and yes… going for that win again. But mostly, continuing to enjoy the energy of the game — the competition, the crowds, the exhaustion after a full weekend of high-level play, and all the moments that make this sport so special.
