The Coachella Valley Scorpions Presented by Agua Caliente Casinos and the National Pickleball League® took center stage with an appearance on the “LIVE With Kelly and Mark” show on location in the greater Palm Springs area that aired on Monday.
Co-host of the highly rated ABC morning show Mark Consuelos teamed up with Scorpions’ co-owner Kim Jagd while fellow teammate Vincent Van Patten partnered with director Michael Gelman with Van Patten and Gelman coming out on top with a spirited 11-8 victory following some instruction in a taped segment that took place at Desert Horizons Golf and Country Club in Indian Wells.
In front of an audience of 2,000 on Sunday at the Westin Rancho Mirage Golf Resort & Spa, Mark presented his wife and co-host Kelly Ripa an honorary Scorpions jersey with her name KELLY on the back, with Ripa commenting, “Thank you, Scorpions, my favorite pickleball team!”
“We had an absolute blast teaching Mark and Michael the ins and outs and strategies of pickleball,” Jagd said. “Michael is a huge fan, and his staff reached out to us a few weeks ago with the idea to play pickleball on the show.
It was great exposure for the Coachella Valley Scorpions and the National Pickleball League and we were happy to participate and even be just a small part of such a huge national show.” The appearance on the show marked another major event for the Scorpions this year as the team announced over the summer Hollywood icon Vince Vaughn as a majority co-owner of the team.
The Coachella Valley Scorpions are one of the 12 teams representing cities from across the country in the National Pickleball League, the premier Champions Pro (50+) professional pickleball league in the U.S. The 2024 regular season featured events taking place once per month from May to October and culminated in the season-ending DreamCloud NPL Championship in October, which will air as a two-hour special on CBS Sports Network on Tuesday, December 3 at 7:00 pm ET.
